Are Dentures Right for you?

Missing teeth are nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, around 25% of adults over the age of 65 are missing at least some of their teeth. While tooth loss can’t always be prevented, it can be corrected with dentures.

At Benitez Dental Clinic, we offer both full dentures and partial dentures, so we’re able to replace any number of missing teeth.

You may want to consider dentures if the following conditions apply to you:
  • You need to replace several or all of your teeth
  • You don’t smoke or use tobacco products
  • You have a healthy jawbone
  • You don’t suffer from dry mouth.
  • You’re committed to attending regular teeth cleanings

“Do Dentures Look Fake?”

Our dentures are custom-crafted to match the look and feel of your natural teeth. When you come into our Mississauga denture clinic, we’ll take impressions of your mouth to ensure that your dentures fit comfortably in your mouth and appear as natural as possible.

How to Take Care of Your Dentures

One of the many advantages of dentures is their easy upkeep. Simply take care of your dentures the same way you would your natural teeth– with daily brushing and flossing and regular dental checkups. You’ll also want to soak them in a cleaning solution overnight while you sleep.

Here are a few more tips for taking care of your dentures:

  • Remove dentures overnight to let your mouth rest
  • Soak dentures in warm water
  • Use a good denture cleanser
  • Do not soak dentures with metal clasps in anything but warm water
  • When not wearing dentures, keep them in water so they don’t dry out and warp
  • NEVER soak dentures in hot water.
  • With dentures removed, clean and massage your gums
  • If you have partial dentures, brush your natural teeth as usual
  • Brush with a soft-bristled brush
  • Use a non-abrasive cleaner

The Denture Process

Dental Exam

To begin your denture process, you’ll need to visit our denture clinic in Mississauga for an initial consultation. During this visit, our doctor will discuss your treatment options with you before examining your gums and teeth to ensure that they’re healthy enough to receive the dentures. Once we’ve determined that you’re a candidate for dentures, we’ll move on to the next step in the process.

Making an Impression

If you require partial dentures, the doctor will take an impression of your remaining teeth. We then send this impression off to a lab where it will be used to manufacture a set of partial dentures matching the exact size and shape of your natural teeth.

The Fitting

Once your new set of dentures has been created, it is sent back to the office, at which time we will call you in for your fitting. During this appointment, the doctor will make sure your dentures fit comfortably in your mouth without slipping or irritating the gums. If we encounter any issues, our specialists will adjust the dentures during your appointment.

The Cost of Dentures in Mississauga

In Mississauga, expect to pay approximately $900 to $3500+ for dentures. The cost of dentures varies widely depending on whether you get full or partial dentures as well as the type of support the dentures will use. Full-mouth dentures may cost anywhere from $1,800 to $3500 and up, while the cost for a full set of implant-supported dentures averages around $30,000.

Factors we consider when determining the cost of dentures:
  • The type of denture you need
  • Dental extractions or other required preparations.
  • Whether or not x-rays are needed
  • Whether or not you get supportive implants

Remember, no one can give you an accurate estimate for the cost of your dentures over the phone. Everyone’s dental condition is different. That’s why it’s necessary to come into our dental office in Mississauga for a consultation to get an accurate estimate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dental bridges can be used to restore a gap caused by 1 to 3 missing teeth. Any number of missing teeth can be restored using dental implants. Dental implants typically have a higher initial investment cost and certain health requirements to qualify as a candidate for treatment.
With routine care and maintenance, your dentures should be good for 5 - 10 years. Aside from wear and tear on the dentures themselves, your mouth also changes over time and you may eventually decide it’s best to get fitted for a completely new set.
Yes, you can wear your dentures to bed but its recommended that you don’t. You should get into the habit of taking them out at night to soak so you can clean your mouth, gums and remaining natural teeth and then give your gums and jaw a chance to rest.
Your top dentures should suction to your gums. Your bottom dentures float above your gums but stay in place easily. Partial dentures should stay in line with natural teeth without moving very much. Implant-supported dentures snap in place and remain stable. If you’re questioning the fit of your denture, you are welcome to book an appointment so we can check your fit and make adjustments as needed.
After you’ve had some time to adjust to your dentures you should be able to eat almost anything. There are some foods that are hard on your dentures or that might cause rubbing or irritation. Foods that are hard or sticky like caramel, carrot sticks or a tough cut of meat or foods that contain little particles like popcorn or seeded crackers might present some challenge and should perhaps be enjoyed only as an occasional treat.
